Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, NY
‘Text in the City’

Katie Malbon MD is an Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, New York, where she provides medical care for underprivileged youth, largely from East Harlem and the South Bronx. The clinic is a non-profit clinic affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital serving approximately 12,000 patients annually. Patients are 10-24yo and can attend the clinic without parental consent and without health insurance or payment. Katie is a UK trained Pediatrician. She worked in the UK for 10 years prior to coming to New York in 2007, to specialize in the area of Adolescent Medicine. She has a particular interest in reproductive health and teenage pregnancy. In January 2010 she established “Text in the City’, a pilot text messaging program for patients attending the clinic. This program enables adolescents to have immediate access to health education and advice at their finger-tips, and in turn hopes to achieve a reduction in the burden of sexually transmitted infections and teenage pregnancies.
