Sanjay J. Koyani is a Senior Communications Advisor in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Tobacco (CTP). At CTP, Sanjay provides strategic communications direction on communication campaigns, digital communications and new media efforts; strategic partnerships and alliances; and evaluation strategies. Prior to CTP, Sanjay served as Director of Web Communications and New Media at FDA. In that role, Sanjay set the direction for FDA.gov and related digital communications, including Web and social media strategy and execution, Web content management, Web analytics, Web outreach and partnerships, and the institutionalization of user-centered design approaches.

Prior to FDA, Sanjay served as a Senior Usability Specialist in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Web Communications Division. At HHS, he led Web design and usability efforts on HHS Web sites and other digital communication systems. He served as project manager for the development of key evidence-based resources – like Usability.gov, the first cross-agency usability resource in the Federal government, and the Research-Based Web Design and Usability Guidelines resource – which help Web managers create highly responsive and usable Web sites. From 1999 to 2003, Sanjay served as manager of the Web Design and Usability Section in the Communication Technologies Branch at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) from 1999 to 2003. At NCI, Sanjay successfully expanded knowledge and expertise in user-centered design and research-based practices across HHS and government. From 1995 to 1999, Sanjay served with NCI’s Patient Education Branch (PEB) as a Health Communications Specialist responsible for designing, managing, promoting, and evaluating multimedia health education and promotion programs targeted to patients, health professionals, and the public.

Mr. Koyani holds a Masters of Public Health from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Purdue
