Clinical Informaticist / Research Technologist, Center for the Advancement of Health Information Technology, RTI International
Robert Furberg is part behavioral scientist, part developer at RTI International, one of the largest independent nonprofit research organizations in the United States. He works primarily at the intersection of health communication and health IT where he investigates how emerging technologies can be used in health care delivery and health education to promote patient and family engagement, patient-provider communication, and clinical decision making. Much of his current research focuses on engaging patients as direct users of health technology for self care and to improve quality and safety, with a focus on the practice of medicine and public health, as supported by mobile devices. He is currently leading the development of RTI’s ARTEMIS platform, a text messaging system developed for researchers by researchers interested in evaluating the effect of SMS on health behaviors.
